Broadband LNAs with Bypass

Low Noise Amplifiers with Bypass that Operate Across Wide Bandwidths

About broadband LNAs with bypass: wide-band LNAs with a switchable bypass path so the amplifier can be electrically removed from the signal chain when input levels exceed the linear range. Read more »Read less «

A low-noise amplifier with bypass is a broadband LNA that includes an integrated SPDT switch around the amplifier core. When input signals are weak, the part operates as a normal LNA — setting the noise figure of the receive chain. When a strong in-band signal would compress the LNA or generate intermod, a single control pin re-routes the signal through a low-loss bypass path instead, sacrificing gain to preserve linearity. This dynamic-range extension is the right approach when system input power varies by 30+ dB across operating conditions (urban vs. rural cellular, near vs. far GNSS, dense ISM environments).

Selection considerations are the same as a standard broadband LNA — noise figure, gain, IIP3, supply current — with two added: bypass insertion loss (the loss the part adds when bypassed) and bypass switching speed (how fast the SPDT can react to AGC commands).

Common applications include cellular receivers in mixed urban/rural deployments, GPS / GNSS designs that need to survive nearby cellular transmitters, and ISM-band radios in noisy industrial environments. AEC-Q100 grade-2 qualified variants are denoted with a "-W" suffix.
