Low Current LNAs with Bypass
Low Power Consumption Amplifiers with Bypass and Great Noise Performance
About low-current LNAs with bypass: battery-friendly LNAs with an integrated bypass path for additional dynamic-range extension — the amplifier can be electrically removed when input levels would otherwise compress it. Read more »Read less «
A low-current LNA with bypass combines minimum-supply-current LNA design with a switchable bypass path. The result is a single component that gives a battery-powered or thermally-constrained radio two operating modes: amplification when the signal is weak (with the noise figure that drives system sensitivity), and a low-loss bypass when the signal is strong enough that amplification would compress and generate intermod. Adding bypass to a low-current part is the right move when input levels span a wide range — portable cellular, GNSS in mixed environments, ISM-band radios in industrial sites.
Selection criteria match a standard low-current LNA (supply current, NF, gain, IIP3), with the addition of bypass insertion loss and switching speed. The bypass control is typically a single CMOS-level digital pin that can be driven from the host MCU's GPIO.
Typical applications include portable cellular handsets and IoT devices, wearable GNSS receivers, dual-mode (high/low-power) sensor radios, and any receiver that has to coexist with a co-located transmitter. AEC-Q100 grade-2 qualified variants are denoted with a "-W" suffix.
